Telangana appoints N Swetha as Warangal police chief amid wide IPS reshuffle
On June 29, the Telangana government ordered a sweeping reshuffle of senior Indian Police Service officers across the state. N Swetha, previously Joint Commissioner (Law and Order) for Hyderabad’s north range, was appointed Commissioner of Police for Warangal, becoming the city’s first woman police chief. She also received additional charge as Deputy Inspector General for Zone 4 (Bhadradri). Sunpreet Singh was transferred from Warangal to become Joint Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Cyberabad, with added DIG charge for Zone 3 (Rajanna). The orders also gave D. Joel Davis, Hyderabad’s joint commissioner for traffic, additional DIG responsibility for Zone 5 (Yadadri), and assigned Ambar Kishor Jha, the Ramagundam commissioner, extra DIG charge for Zone 1 (Kaleshwaram). Other moves included R. Bhaskaran to DIG Zone 2 (Basara), S. M. Vijay Kumar to a joint commissioner role, and several senior officers shifted within the Anti‑Corruption Bureau, CID and intelligence units. In parallel, 23 non‑cadre SPs and additional SPs were transferred and posted to new positions.
