The Telangana state cabinet gave administrative approval for the first phase of the Musi River rejuvenation project, covering a 21‑km stretch from Himayatsagar and Osmansagar to Bapu Ghat. The phase is budgeted at Rs 7,345.12 crore and will involve tendering that is to be announced by 9 July, with contracts expected to be awarded by 19 August. The plan includes creating 147 new posts for implementation and maintenance, and the state will deputise staff from other departments. A Singapore‑based engineering consultancy, Meinhardt, part of a consortium with Cushman & Wakefield and RIOS, prepared the draft detailed project report, focusing on continuous freshwater flow, modern riverfront infrastructure and flood mitigation. The cabinet also directed the provision of double‑bedroom houses for families living in the riverbed, compensation or transferable development rights for affected landowners, and the establishment of a Musi experience centre on Necklace Road.
