Telangana CM Revanth Reddy disputes US visit denial

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has accused the central government of political discrimination after the Ministry of External Affairs denied him political clearance for a planned visit to the United States. While Reddy was permitted to travel to the United Kingdom, the US leg of his trip was blocked because the proposed programme was deemed “not appropriate” by the Ministry.

Reddy argued that the denial is an “insult” to the 4 crore people of Telangana and an attempt to hinder the state’s efforts to attract international investment and promote its “Telangana Rising-2047” vision. He specifically questioned why the Centre permitted the Gujarat Chief Minister to visit the US while restricting his own delegation, which intended to engage with universities and business leaders.

The controversy has also centered on reports that Reddy intended to meet US political figures, including New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Vice President JD Vance. Reddy defended the potential meeting with Mamdani, stating the Mayor is an elected official and not an “anti-social element.”

In response, the Telangana BJP has criticized the Chief Minister, demanding he disclose the specific individuals he intended to meet and the purpose of those meetings. BJP leaders alleged that the denial was due to a failure to follow proper diplomatic protocols and suggested that the Chief Minister had not provided adequate information to the Ministry of External Affairs.
