Telangana Assembly: BRS leaders detained during black T-shirt protest
Tensions erupted at the Telangana Legislative Assembly on the first day of its monsoon session as Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders staged a protest against the ruling Congress government. BRS representatives, including K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) and T. Harish Rao, arrived wearing black T-shirts printed with slogans criticizing the Congress for failing to fulfill electoral promises after 1,000 days in office.
Police prevented the BRS legislators from entering the Assembly premises, citing that the T-shirts contained objectionable political messages. This led to heated confrontations, scuffles, and the detention of several top BRS leaders. The BRS party alleged police brutality, claiming that female MLAs, including Sabeeta Indrareddy and Sunitha Laxma Reddy, were manhandled and physically assaulted during the melee.
In addition to the Assembly standoff, BRS leaders announced plans for a mass movement led by K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) to protest the alleged mismanagement of the Kaleshwaram and Palamuru-Rangareddy irrigation projects. The opposition also intends to raise issues regarding pending student scholarships, fee reimbursements, and the lack of a job calendar for unemployed youth during the session.
