Revanth Reddy sparks political row with ‘Gandhi vs Sangh Parivar’ remarks

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has sparked political controversy after describing India’s political landscape as a struggle between the ‘Gandhi Parivar’ and the ‘Sangh Parivar’. Speaking in Nilambur, Kerala, while receiving the Aryadan Muhammed Best Public Servant Award 2026, Reddy claimed the Gandhi family represents sacrifice and service, whereas the Sangh Parivar seeks to divide the nation based on religion, caste, and language. He expressed his aspiration to see Rahul Gandhi become Prime Minister.

The remarks drew sharp criticism from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP). BJP spokespersons and MPs labeled the comments as ‘profoundly ridiculous’ and ‘mental bankruptcy’, accusing the Chief Minister of sycophancy toward the Nehru-Gandhi dynasty.

In separate developments, Reddy has been active in New Delhi to secure funding and approvals for major Telangana infrastructure projects, including the Hyderabad Metro Phase-II and the Regional Ring Road. Additionally, his administration has constituted a committee to investigate land-related irregularities involving former BRS leaders.
