Telangana Congress urges vigilance as SIR roll revision threatens voter rights

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy warned Congress party leaders that negligence over the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls would invite strict action, saying “We will not tolerate any negligence and are observing the performance of the in‑charges for 10 days.” He urged ministers, MLAs, MPs and local party in‑charges to organize awareness meetings and protect the voting rights of poor citizens, who could lose Aadhaar and ration cards if removed from the rolls.

Congress leaders, including state in‑charge Meenakshi Natarajan and PCC president Bomma Mahesh Kumar Goud, intensified their own SIR campaign, addressing Booth Level Agents in Warangal and Hanamkonda. Natarajan claimed the current SIR “is being used to remove voters’ names from the electoral rolls,” alleging it benefits the BJP and could leave citizens feeling like refugees in their own country. Goud echoed concerns about voter deletions in West Bengal and warned that the exercise could undermine democracy. Both parties called for vigilant grassroots verification as the ECI’s door‑to‑door enumeration proceeds from June 25 to July 24.
