Telangana CM sanctions funds to repatriate worker killed in Ukraine war
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has sanctioned ₹6 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to repatriate the mortal remains of Vavilala Sudarshan Goud, a worker killed in the Russia-Ukraine war.
Sudarshan Goud, a resident of Jagtial district who had traveled to Ukraine for employment, was reportedly killed in a drone attack on September 1, 2026. His wife, Vavilala Bhargavi, sought financial assistance through the ‘CM Pravasi Prajavani’ grievance redressal forum after the Indian Embassy advised that the family would need to cover the repatriation costs, as the employer was unable to do so.
The assistance was approved following an appeal by Minister for Scheduled Castes Development, Adluri Lakshman Kumar. Officials have been directed to expedite the process to ensure the remains are returned to India for final rites.
Separately, reports indicate that another individual from Telangana, Mohammed Afzal Khan, is feared dead in the conflict zone, though official confirmation is pending.
