Telangana government humanitarian and welfare actions
Overview
The Telangana state government has implemented humanitarian measures for citizens affected by international conflicts and expanded welfare programs for local law enforcement.
To assist families affected by the Russia-Ukraine war, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy sanctioned ₹6 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to repatriate the remains of Vavilala Sudarshan Goud, a 42-year-old worker from Jagtial district killed in a missile strike on September 1, 2026. The repatriation process, which faced delays due to investigations and cost disputes, involves transporting the remains by road to Poland, then flying via Amsterdam to Hyderabad, with arrival expected on October 31. The assistance was granted following an appeal through the ‘CM Pravasi Prajavani’ grievance forum. Additionally, officials are monitoring reports of another individual, Mohammed Afzal Khan, who is feared dead in the conflict zone.
Regarding domestic policy, the Chief Minister announced significant welfare increases for police personnel. During a Police Commemoration Parade, ex-gratia compensation for martyrs was raised from ₹40–50 lakh to between ₹1 crore and ₹2 crore, with higher tiers for Superintendents of Police and IPS officers. Home Guard compensation will also increase from ₹5 lakh to ₹10 lakh. Other benefits for families of fallen officers include potential government employment, residential plots, free education, and healthcare. To bolster the force, the state aims to fill all vacant police posts by 2028, having already issued notifications for 5,000 vacancies and 112 DSP posts.
