Revanth Reddy denied US visit clearance by Ministry of External Affairs

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has denied political clearance for Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s proposed visit to the United States, citing that the proposed programme was not appropriate to the office held and the purpose of the visit. While clearance was granted for his trip to the United Kingdom, the denial of the US leg has forced the Chief Minister to cut his international tour short. Reddy, currently in London, is now scheduled to return to Hyderabad on August 23 instead of proceeding to Boston and New York.

Reddy stated that the primary objective of the visit was to establish educational and technological partnerships with prestigious American institutions, including Harvard University, MIT, Northeastern University, and Virginia Tech, to transform Hyderabad into a global knowledge hub. He expressed dismay over what he termed a ‘political denial’ of a mission intended to support the New Education Policy and the development of Telangana.

Despite the Chief Minister’s personal cancellation, he has instructed the official Telangana Rising delegation to proceed with the US tour as planned to finalize Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and partnerships. Meanwhile, the BJP has defended the MEA’s decision, stating it follows established diplomatic and security protocols. The incident occurs amid broader internal political friction within the Telangana Congress party involving Minister Konda Surekha and her family.
