Telangana Congress seeks safeguards against voter deletions

The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) has submitted seven demands to the Election Commission of India (ECI) regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The party is raising concerns over the exclusion of approximately 73.39 lakh electors from the draft rolls, noting that the number of electors dropped from 3.38 crore at the start of the process to roughly 2.65 crore in the draft.

A primary demand is that failure to attend a hearing should not be used as sole grounds for deleting a voter's name, citing reasons such as work, migration, or lack of understanding of notices. The TPCC also requested greater transparency, including a daily tally of Form-6 applications on the Chief Electoral Officer’s website and a segment-wise breakdown of discrepancy categories.

TPCC spokesperson Syed Nizamuddin stated that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will present these concerns at the Congress Working Committee meeting in New Delhi on September 29. The party is also calling for an independent audit of the electoral-roll software and the acceptance of the state government’s new family certificate as a valid supporting document.
