Telangana electoral roll revision faces scrutiny amid deletion allegations
In Telangana, officials have cleared 4,554,236 electors for inclusion in the final electoral roll following hearings for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). Out of approximately 9.28 million notices generated, 8.78 million have been delivered. To date, over 5.89 million hearings have been conducted to address logical discrepancies and record mapping, with 77.20 percent of those cases resulting in eligibility. The deadline for filing claims and objections is October 7, with the final roll scheduled for publication on November 11.
Separately, Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has accused the Election Commission of India (ECI) of a conspiracy to delete massive numbers of voters from electoral rolls nationwide. Reddy alleged that 13 crore names have already been removed and claimed this could rise to 20 crore by the 2029 general elections. He characterized the SIR process as a tool to strip voting rights from the poor and compared the ECI's current role to the British-era Simon Commission, calling for a nationwide movement against the revision process.
