Telangana electoral roll revision: New rules for voter document submission
Telangana Chief Electoral Officer C Sudharshan Reddy has issued new directives regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. To facilitate the voter verification process, adult family members are now permitted to submit necessary documents and information on behalf of voters who have received notices.
As part of the ongoing revision, the Election Commission of India has identified approximately 93 lakh flagged voters due to anomalies, such as spelling errors, age discrepancies, and logical errors in progeny mapping. While over 80 lakh notices have been served, roughly 2,800 votes have already been categorized as ‘ineligible’ and deleted at the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) level.
Concerns have been raised regarding whether proper procedures are being followed, specifically whether ‘speaking orders’—which provide formal reasons for rejection—are being served to voters losing their registration. Officials have been instructed to review pending notices and ensure that all Form 6 applications and declaration forms are processed according to prescribed guidelines.
