Telangana electoral roll shrinks by 21 percent following mass voter deletions
Telangana Chief Electoral Officer C Sudharsan Reddy has released a list of deleted voters, revealing that the state's electoral roll has decreased by 21.70 percent. The total number of voters dropped from 3,38,26,448 on June 10, 2026, to 2,64,87,213 in the draft list, representing 73,39,235 deletions.
Hyderabad recorded the highest number of deletions with 19,41,444 voters removed, followed by Ranga Reddy district with 1,287,091 and Medchal-Malkajgiri with 1,071,566. The primary reason for deletion was voters being “permanently shifted,” accounting for 4,518,963 cases. Other factors included voters being “untraceable/absent” (1,125,546), deaths (922,229), and duplicate enrollments in other constituencies (670,203).
In response to these changes, the Chief Electoral Officer has scheduled gram sabha and ward sabha meetings at all polling stations for August 27. These meetings aim to allow voters to verify names, submit forms for new registrations (Form-6), file objections (Form-7), or request corrections (Form-8). The Congress party is mobilizing voters to participate in these sessions to address issues regarding the draft electoral roll and the special intensive revision process.
