Telangana faces rainfall deficit and heavy rain warnings as monsoon stalls

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that, 40 days after the southwest monsoon entered the region, 20 districts of Telangana are experiencing a rainfall deficit of about 15%, with Medchal‑Malkajgiri district lagging 48% behind expected totals. The department forecast light to moderate showers over the next three days but warned of strong surface winds reaching up to 60 km/h.

On July 11, a surface circulation over the west‑central Bay of Bengal triggered light to moderate rains across parts of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Specific districts in Telangana—including Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Peddapalli, and others—were placed under heavy‑rain alerts, while coastal districts in Andhra Pradesh saw lighter showers. Authorities advised residents to avoid water‑logged roads, stay clear of electric wires, and refrain from fishing in the sea.

The IMD also noted that the monsoon is advancing into Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana and Punjab, with favorable conditions expected to complete its nationwide spread in the coming days.
