Telangana government advances Indiramma housing projects in Hyderabad

The Telangana government is moving forward with its Indiramma housing program in Hyderabad, initiating lucky draws from August 28 to 31 to allot flats to eligible beneficiaries. Revenue and Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy announced that 40,900 applicants have been identified for the first phase, following the verification of 60,720 applications. The government has rejected 19,820 applications, and earnest money deposits will be returned to those who did not qualify.

Simultaneously, the government is facing scrutiny regarding its plan to construct Indiramma houses on a six-and-a-half-acre parcel of RTC land near RTC Cross Roads in Hyderabad. The RTC management has proposed using the Musheerabad-1 depot instead, citing that the Cross Roads site contains newer infrastructure. Legal experts have also raised concerns regarding the ownership and repurposing of RTC assets, noting that unresolved issues related to the division of assets following the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh may impact the state's ability to take over the land.
