Telangana government appeals High Court stay on welfare schemes

The Telangana government has approached a division bench of the High Court to challenge a stay order on the Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak welfare schemes. These programs provide financial assistance to brides from economically weaker families to support marriage costs and assist in the state's efforts to eliminate child marriages.

During hearings, Advocate General Sudarshan Reddy argued that the original petition challenging the legality of the schemes was not maintainable. The government contends that the stay has caused significant hardship for thousands of beneficiaries who rely on these funds. The opposition party, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), has staged protests demanding the continuity of the schemes and criticizing the administration for negligence.

The court has adjourned the matter, with further arguments expected in upcoming sessions. The final ruling will determine whether the implementation of these financial assistance programs can resume.
