Telangana government facilitates repatriation of man killed in Ukraine
The Telangana government has made arrangements to repatriate the mortal remains of Avilala Sudarshan Goud, a 42-year-old migrant worker from Jagtial district who was killed in a Russian missile strike in Ukraine on September 1.
The repatriation process, which has taken nearly two months, was delayed by investigations into the missile strike and disputes regarding the costs of transport. Following an appeal from Goud’s wife through the CM Pravasi Prajavani grievance forum, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy sanctioned Rs 6 lakh to cover the expenses. The state government has also requested the Indian Embassy in Ukraine to consider using the Indian Community Welfare Fund (ICWF) to meet the costs.
Due to restrictions on Ukrainian airspace, the remains are scheduled to be transported by road to Poland. From Warsaw, the body will be flown to Amsterdam before arriving in Hyderabad on the early hours of October 31. Following arrival, the remains will be transported to Hasanabad village for final rites.
