Telangana government seeks higher paddy procurement target after record purchase

The Telangana state government reported a record paddy procurement of about 80 lakh metric tonnes this season. It has asked the central government to raise the procurement target to match the higher output and to extend the delivery timeline for Custom Milled Rice (CMR).

Officials say the volume reflects strong farmer participation and effective Minimum Support Price (MSP) operations. They cite storage and logistical challenges and have requested additional support for storage infrastructure and grain movement to avoid bottlenecks and protect farmers’ interests.
