Telangana introduces mandatory video lessons and AI-based driving tests

The Telangana Transport Department is implementing new measures to modernize the driving licence process and enhance road safety. Applicants for a Learner’s Licence (LLR) must now complete two and a half hours of mandatory road safety video lessons. The process includes face recognition and OTP verification, with the system designed to stop if a candidate turns away or interrupts the session. Upon completion, applicants must download a certificate before booking a permanent licence test.

Additionally, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has invited bids for a 7.46 crore rupee project to introduce Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based video analytics at five Automated Driving Testing Tracks (ADTTs). These tracks, located in Nagole, Ibrahimpatnam, Kondapur, Uppal, and Medchal, will use AI to evaluate driving performance against standardized criteria. The initiative aims to reduce human intervention, increase transparency, and ensure more objective assessments as vehicle numbers continue to grow in the region.
