Telangana driving license modernization
Overview
The Telangana Transport Department has initiated measures to modernize the driving license process and improve road safety. New requirements include mandatory two and a half hour road safety video lessons for Learner’s Licence applicants, featuring face recognition and OTP verification to ensure engagement.
To enhance testing objectivity, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority invited bids for AI-based video analytics at five Automated Driving Testing Tracks. This effort was expanded through a Memorandum of Agreement between the Telangana government and Maruti Suzuki India. Under this agreement, Maruti Suzuki will establish 12 Automated Driving Test Tracks across six locations, including Ibrahimpatnam, Kondapur, Uppal, Medchal, Nagole, and Karimnagar. These facilities will utilize high-definition cameras, RFID sensors, and real-time analytics to conduct computerized tests for two-wheelers and light motor vehicles, with heavy motor vehicle testing available at specific sites.
