Telangana Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy Fast‑Tracks RDS Modernisation and Rajiv Gandhi Lift Irrigation Scheme
Telangana Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy directed officials to accelerate the modernisation of the Rajolibanda Diversion Scheme (RDS), stressing the need to protect the state’s rights over Tungabhadra water and to fast‑track the second phase of the Tummilla Lift Irrigation Scheme. He ordered completion of pending strengthening works, reinforcement of canal embankments, reduction of water losses and prioritised land acquisition for new reservoirs, while ensuring fair compensation for affected farmers.
Reddy also highlighted progress on the Rajiv Gandhi Lift Irrigation Scheme, a Rs 394‑crore project that will irrigate about 14,000 acres across villages in Suryapet district. The scheme, designed to bring water to farmers despite proximity to the Krishna River, has already seen 16 km of a 22‑km pressure main pipe manufactured and a 6‑km stretch installed.
