Telangana Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy Orders Financial Revamp for Irrigation Corporations
Telangana Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy has directed officials to draft a comprehensive funding strategy within ten days aimed at cutting the debt of state irrigation corporations and making them financially independent. The plan calls for appointing experienced financial experts, completing pending statutory audits, renegotiating existing debts, and exploring new revenue sources such as solar power projects on corporation-owned land.
Reddy also warned that the state is facing deficit rainfall and heightened climate uncertainty, urging a redesign of irrigation systems to cope with variable water availability. He highlighted measures to secure long‑term drinking water for Hyderabad through water transfers from the Godavari and Krishna rivers, large‑scale rainwater harvesting, and programmes to restore and protect lakes and natural drainage systems.
