Telangana Police redeploys personnel to tackle modern crime

The Telangana Police Department is restructuring its workforce to address evolving public safety challenges. Director-General of Police C. V. Anand announced the redeployment of 513 personnel from specialized units, such as Greyhounds, OCTOPUS, and SIB, to eight different departments.

This shift follows a decline in Maoist activity and Left-Wing Extremism, which were primary concerns in previous decades. The department is now prioritizing modern threats including cybercrime, drug trafficking, online betting, investment fraud, and food adulteration.

The largest portion of the redeployed staff, consisting of 224 personnel, will join the Traffic Management and Road Safety wing. Other significant allocations include 80 personnel to Food Adulteration and Drug Control and 79 to Vigilance and Enforcement. Additional officers will be distributed among the Anti-Corruption Bureau, Cyber Security Bureau, and the Crime Investigation Department.
