Telangana politics: BRS leaders face resignation demands and water release warnings
Political tensions are rising in Telangana as the Congress party holds protests demanding the resignation of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) President K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) from his position as Leader of Opposition. Protesters allege that KCR has been absent from the State Legislative Assembly for 1,000 days while drawing approximately Rs 1.32 crore in salary and incurring Rs 21 crore in security costs.
In response to the upcoming Assembly session starting September 7, KCR has convened a joint meeting of BRS MLAs and MLCs on September 6 at his Erravelli residence. The meeting aims to coordinate the party’s strategy and response to the government’s agenda.
Separately, BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) has issued a warning to the state government regarding irrigation. He stated he will lead a padayatra from Kodad to Haliya with farmers if a water release schedule for the Nagarjuna Sagar Left Canal is not announced by September 14, alleging that the current administration is withholding water despite available reserves.
