Telangana proposes AI-driven traffic management system for Hyderabad

The Telangana government is planning a technological overhaul of traffic management in Hyderabad and across the state. Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju has proposed the creation of TG-TMARS (Traffic Management and Road Safety), a dedicated and independent system designed to consolidate and analyze traffic data through a coordinated effort between police, transport, municipal, and urban development departments.

The initiative focuses on deploying Artificial Intelligence (AI) and modernizing traffic signaling systems. Jaju emphasized that AI usage should extend beyond mere traffic violation enforcement to include improving travel speed, convenience, and overall road safety. Officials have been directed to study advanced AI-based technologies and launch pilot projects.

Plans include strengthening electronic enforcement and modernizing signals in cities, district headquarters, and along the Outer Ring Road (ORR). The government aims to identify accident-prone locations and ensure faster routes for emergency services, following Supreme Court guidelines for road safety.
