Telangana AI-driven traffic management initiative
Overview
The Telangana government has proposed the implementation of an AI-driven traffic management and road safety system, known as TG-TMARS, to overhaul traffic control in Hyderabad and throughout the state.
Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju indicated that the initiative will consolidate data through coordination between police, transport, municipal, and urban development departments. The project aims to use artificial intelligence to modernize signaling systems, improve travel speeds, and enhance road safety. Beyond enforcing traffic violations, the system is intended to identify accident-prone areas and ensure faster routes for emergency services in accordance with Supreme Court guidelines. Officials have been instructed to study advanced technologies and initiate pilot projects for electronic enforcement and signal modernization in cities and along the Outer Ring Road.
