Telangana rejects polytechnic privatization, announces ₹4,000 crore upgrade

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has denied allegations regarding the privatization of government polytechnic colleges. Addressing the Legislative Assembly, the Chief Minister clarified that these institutions will remain under government control despite opposition claims from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).

The government plans to integrate polytechnic colleges with the Young India Skills University (YISU) to align diploma courses with industrial requirements. This reform aims to improve student career prospects by focusing on emerging sectors such as artificial intelligence, robotics, semiconductors, electric vehicles, and advanced manufacturing.

As part of this modernization effort, the Tata Group has signed a memorandum of understanding to invest approximately ₹4,000 crore to upgrade 59 polytechnic colleges. The investment will target improvements in laboratories, equipment, infrastructure, and faculty capabilities. The government is also seeking approval from the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) for the Skills University.
