India's Special Intensive Revision of Electoral Rolls Near Completion

In Sikkim, the third phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls left more than 37,000 enumeration forms uncollected, representing about 8 % of the state's 471,018 electorate. Authorities attributed the gaps mainly to migration, with 14,603 electors permanently shifted, 10,837 deceased, and the remainder untraceable, duplicated, or enrolled elsewhere. Despite this, 99.71 % of forms were distributed and 433,242 entries fully digitised. Verification of the outstanding forms is slated to finish by early July, with the final roll to be published on September 6, 2026.

In Hyderabad, Telangana, officials reported that the SIR distribution had crossed 1.02 million forms, covering 30.8 % of the state's 33.8 million voters. Nalgonda district led with 74 % completion, while Hyderabad district lagged at about 300,000 forms. Election officers noted pressure on Booth Level Officers to meet a July 1 deadline, and the Congress party urged an extension of the distribution period. The rollout follows a Supreme Court ruling that upholds the SIR as constitutionally sound.
