Telangana Assembly: 22 BRS members suspended amid political clashes

Political tensions in Telangana have escalated following a series of confrontations involving the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and the ruling Congress party. During the Assembly's monsoon session, 22 BRS legislators were suspended after disrupting proceedings with slogans and protests.

Two BRS MLCs, Tata Madhusudhan and N. Naveen Kumar Reddy, were arrested for allegedly making derogatory and abusive remarks against Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar, which included insults related to his caste identity. The Speaker's office filed a complaint under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

Further clashes occurred at the Assembly entrance, where BRS leaders K.T. Rama Rao and T. Harish Rao were detained. Police registered cases against these leaders for allegedly abusing and obstructing women police officers. BRS women legislators have countered these claims, alleging they were physically manhandled and humiliated by security personnel.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has ordered a comprehensive probe into the incidents, accusing BRS chief K. Chandrashekar Rao of instigating the disruptions. Meanwhile, Congress leaders have alleged that the disruptions were a conspiracy orchestrated by KCR from his farmhouse to deflect from governance issues.
