Telangana to build 50,000‑tonne modern grain silo network

The Telangana state government plans to modernise its paddy storage system by installing technology‑driven grain silos at 20 sites across ten major paddy‑producing districts. The proposed network will have an initial gross capacity of 50,000 metric tonnes and is intended to strengthen post‑harvest management, cut storage losses and speed grain movement.

Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy said the silos will complement, not replace, the existing procurement infrastructure and that Self‑Help Groups and Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies will continue to play a key role. Representatives of FAMSUN Storage Engineering presented automated handling, digital monitoring of temperature and moisture, mechanised unloading and dedicated rail links that could reduce vehicle turnaround from days to about one hour.

The government will review detailed cost proposals before deciding on adoption of the technology.
