Telangana to continue talks with Maharashtra over Tummidihatti barrage
Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has ordered irrigation officials to maintain ongoing dialogue with the Maharashtra government regarding the proposed construction of the Tummidihatti barrage across the Pranahita River.
During a review meeting, the Chief Minister emphasized the need for officials to prepare comprehensive details of areas likely to be submerged and to exchange all relevant documentation with Maharashtra. To facilitate the process, the Telangana government expressed readiness to provide adequate compensation for any land in Maharashtra affected by submergence and is willing to deposit funds into a joint account managed by both state governments.
Reddy also stated that Telangana would not object to Maharashtra conducting its own independent survey of potential land submergence. This follows a meeting on October 26 between Chief Minister Reddy and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who indicated a willingness to revisit the request for a 152-metre high barrage, provided technical, environmental, and administrative requirements are met.
