TELCOR announces roadmap for mobile number portability in Nicaragua

The Nicaraguan Institute of Telecommunications and Posts (TELCOR) has released an official roadmap for the implementation of Mobile Number Portability (MNP) in the country. The service is projected to become operational by the end of 2027.

This initiative will allow users to switch between mobile service providers while retaining their existing telephone numbers. According to TELCOR, the process is supported by Law No. 1223, the General Law of Convergent Telecommunications, which mandates that changing providers while preserving the number must be a completely free service for citizens.

The regulator aims to use this measure to stimulate market competition, encouraging mobile operators to offer more competitive plans, rates, and improved customer service. TELCOR will lead and supervise the implementation phases in coordination with mobile telephony companies.
