Tele2 named fastest 5G provider in Lithuania by Ookla

Tele2 has been recognized by Ookla as having the fastest 5G internet in Lithuania for the first half of 2026. The award is based on real-world user data collected via the Speedtest platform. To support this performance, Tele2 invested 11.7 million euros in network quality during the first half of the year, a nearly 15 percent increase compared to the previous year, and expanded its infrastructure to over 1,600 base stations.

Concurrently, the Lithuanian electronic communications sector continues to show significant growth. According to the Communications Regulatory Authority (RRT), sector revenues reached 240.52 million euros in the second quarter of 2026, up 5.12 percent year-on-year. This growth is primarily driven by data transmission services, which accounted for approximately 65.7 percent of total sector revenue.

Mobile data usage is rising rapidly, with total data transmitted via mobile networks reaching 584.44 petabytes, a 21.67 percent increase over the previous year. While traditional voice calls have decreased, 5G networks now handle nearly one-third of all mobile internet data. Additionally, the number of SIM cards used for machine-to-machine (M2M) communication grew by more than 20 percent annually, highlighting the expanding role of connectivity in industries such as transport and energy.
