Lithuanian telecommunications sector trends
Overview
In the first half of 2026, Tele2 was recognized by Ookla as the fastest 5G provider in Lithuania, following an investment of 11.7 million euros to expand its infrastructure to over 1,600 base stations.
During this period, Lithuania’s electronic communications sector experienced growth, with revenues reaching 240.52 million euros in the second quarter of 2026. This increase was largely driven by data transmission services, which accounted for approximately 65.7 percent of total sector revenue. Mobile data usage also rose significantly, with total data transmitted via mobile networks reaching 584.44 petabytes, a 21.67 percent increase over the previous year. While traditional voice calls have declined, 5G networks now manage nearly one-third of all mobile internet data, and machine-to-machine communication via SIM cards grew by more than 20 percent annually.
