Telecel Ghana launches SecureNet cybersecurity service

Telecel Ghana has launched SecureNet, a network-level cybersecurity service designed to protect subscribers from online threats. Developed in partnership with the Czech global cybersecurity firm Whalebone, the service operates within the mobile network infrastructure, meaning it requires no app installation, software downloads, or manual configuration from users.

SecureNet functions by detecting and blocking connections to malicious destinations in real time. The service specifically targets phishing sites, fraudulent shopping platforms, scam links sent via SMS or WhatsApp, and malicious websites designed to steal credentials. By intercepting these threats at the network level, the service acts as a filter between the user's device and the internet.

The deployment is being managed locally through AntCellular. According to Whalebone's Vice President for Middle East and Africa, Ismail Embaby, the system utilizes localized threat intelligence specifically tailored to the Ghanaian market rather than relying solely on generic global blocklists.
