Ghana telecommunications sector expansion

Overview

Telecommunications companies in Ghana are expanding their service offerings and infrastructure to support digital growth.

Telecel Ghana introduced SecureNet, a network-level cybersecurity service developed with the Czech firm Whalebone. The service aims to protect subscribers from phishing, fraudulent platforms, and malicious links by blocking connections to harmful destinations in real time without requiring user software installation.

Concurrently, major providers are increasing capital investments. MTN Ghana has committed over US$1.10 billion over three years to expand network coverage and prepare for 5G rollout, including the construction of 800 new cell sites. Telecel Ghana is also increasing investment to upgrade its network and address congestion following its acquisition of Vodafone Ghana assets.
