Telecinco premieres ‘Rueda la letra’ amid Pasapalabra comparisons
Telecinco has premiered the new game show ‘Rueda la letra’, hosted by Carlos Sobera, amid significant controversy and comparisons to the long-running program ‘Pasapalabra’. The new format, produced by Mediaset España in collaboration with Bulldog TV, features a linguistic challenge that serves as a direct competitor to Antena 3’s ‘Pasapalabra’ in the evening access slot.
The launch follows a series of legal battles regarding the intellectual property of the circular word game format. A Supreme Court ruling previously recognized the Dutch company MCF as the owner of the ‘Rosco’ trademark and its circular design, leading to the rebranding of the final challenge in competing shows.
While the new program aims to capture audiences with celebrity participants and a starting jackpot of 200,000 euros, it has faced immediate scrutiny on social media, with viewers questioning the similarities to the rival format. The show is directed by Rafa Guardiola, who previously directed ‘Pasapalabra’ during its tenure on Telecinco.
