Mediaset launches 'El Rosco' promo after court win
Mediaset España (Telecinco) released a 20‑second promotional spot for “El Rosco”, the iconic final round of the game show Pasapalabra. The video shows flying discs forming a circle over Mediaset’s Fuencarral headquarters, the 25 letters lighting up in yellow while the hymn “Aleluya” plays, ending with the channel’s logo. The promo follows a Spanish Supreme Court ruling on 21 May 2026 that confirmed the format’s intellectual‑property rights belong to the Dutch company MC&F, forcing Atresmedia to cease using the Rosco in its own version of Pasapalabra. Mediaset is using the promotion to re‑brand the format under its own banner and to strengthen its position in the highly lucrative “access slot” of prime‑time television, which generates more than €200 million in advertising revenue annually. At the same time, Mediaset has filed a lawsuit against Atresmedia over the rival “AlaZ” final, alleging it copies essential elements of the Rosco. The move is part of an ongoing legal and competitive battle for control of one of Spain’s most recognizable TV formats.
