Telecom Argentina plans divestment to Metrotel to meet regulatory terms

Telecom Argentina is reportedly preparing a divestment plan to meet regulatory requirements following its 2025 acquisition of Telefónica Argentina. The proposed deal involves transferring approximately 6 million fixed and mobile customers to Metrotel, an enterprise-focused firm.

To comply with competition authority mandates, the group intends to cede 130 MHz of radio spectrum at a national level. The divestment plan was formally presented to the Secretaría de Concentraciones Económicas in late July. While the move aims to alleviate market competition concerns, some industry observers have raised questions regarding the potential for maintaining market concentration through the transaction.
