Telecom Argentina regulatory divestment to Metrotel
Overview
Following its 2025 acquisition of Telefónica Argentina, Telecom Argentina initiated a divestment plan to satisfy regulatory requirements and alleviate market competition concerns. The initial proposal involved transferring approximately 6 million fixed and mobile customers to Metrotel and ceding 130 MHz of radio spectrum to the Secretaría de Concentraciones Económicas.
The National Competition Authority (ANC) has since approved Metrotel as the buyer for these assets. The transaction is expected to transfer roughly six million mobile telephony users and 200,000 fixed internet customers, marking a transition for Metrotel from a corporate and wholesale focus into the mass consumer market. Telecom and Metrotel are moving into negotiations to determine the final transfer price, which will require final approval from the ANC once a definitive agreement is reached.
