Telecommunications providers increase investment in Ghana

Major telecommunications providers in Ghana are increasing infrastructure investments to meet rising data demand and support the country’s digital economy.

MTN Ghana has committed over US$1.10 billion over the next three years to expand network coverage, deploy new sites, and prepare for 5G rollout. This includes approximately US$380 million in spending this year and the construction of 800 new cell sites, marking the company’s largest annual build in a decade. The expansion aims to improve service quality in rural and peri-urban communities.

Telecel Ghana is also stepping up capital investment following what management describes as exponential growth in service utilization and subscriber numbers. Since acquiring the assets of Vodafone Ghana, Telecel has focused on network upgrades and expansion to address congestion and support growing demand for mobile connectivity and Telecel Cash services.
