Barzoo Rezaei sentenced to death in Tehran

Barzoo Rezaei, a citizen from Kermanشاه currently held in Tehran Grand Prison, has been sentenced to death by the 23rd Branch of the Tehran Revolutionary Court. The sentence was issued by Judge Mohammad Taghi Taghizadeh.

Rezaei faces charges of ‘moharebeh’ (enmity against God) through cooperation with hostile governments intended to disrupt national security. Reports indicate that Rezaei was arrested in February 2026 in connection with the widespread nationwide protests of December 2025 (Dey 1404).

Human rights organizations have raised concerns regarding the fairness of the trial, noting that Rezaei was reportedly deprived of the right to choose legal counsel during the interrogation and indictment phases, which conflicts with international standards for due process and the right to a defense.
