Telekom expands German fiber network via acquisition and real estate partnerships

Telekom Deutschland GmbH is expanding its fiber optic infrastructure through both strategic acquisitions and large-scale industry partnerships. In an asset deal, Telekom is acquiring the fiber optic network of ruhrfibre Essen Netz GmbH & Co. KG and metrofibre GmbH. This acquisition, facilitated by the law firm Dentons during the companies' insolvency proceedings, includes a network covering approximately 87,000 households in the Essen and Düsseldorf regions.

Simultaneously, the German real estate industry is accelerating fiber deployment in multi-family residential buildings. Real estate companies, managers, and developers have commissioned Telekom to expand fiber connectivity for a total of seven million residential units. Telekom provides an open network architecture that allows third-party telecommunications providers to use the infrastructure, ensuring residents are not locked into a single service provider.
