Teletón Unidos por Venezuela aims to raise $1.5 million for earthquake relief
The Teletón ‘Unidos por Venezuela’ fundraising campaign launched on Saturday, October 17, with a goal of $1.5 million to support victims of the dual earthquakes that struck Venezuela on June 24. Organized by Venevisión, the 15-hour continuous broadcast features live radio and television programming from Caracas, Miami, and Mexico City, involving numerous musical artists and presenters.
By mid-afternoon, the event had already raised over $1.18 million. The funds are intended to assist communities affected by the magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 tremors, which reportedly caused at least 6,509 deaths and left approximately 18,000 people displaced.
Donations will be managed by the Dividendo Voluntario para la Comunidad through the United Way Worldwide platform. The resources will be distributed to several organizations, including Cáritas Venezuela for social assistance, Fe y Alegría for educational support, and the Hospital Ortopédico Infantil in partnership with the Fundación Juan Pablo Dos Santos to provide prosthetics for amputees. Ernst & Young will audit the process to ensure transparency.
