Teletón earthquake relief efforts in Latin America

Overview

Various Teletón organizations have launched fundraising initiatives to support victims of recent seismic activity in the region.

In Venezuela, the ‘Unidos por Venezuela’ campaign, organized by Venevisión, launched a 15-hour broadcast to raise $1.5 million for victims of dual earthquakes that struck in June. The event, involving programming from Caracas, Miami, and Mexico City, aimed to assist communities affected by magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 tremors. Funds managed by Dividendo Voluntario para la Comunidad are designated for social assistance, educational support, and prosthetic needs, with Ernst & Young providing audits.

In Panama, the Teletón 20-30 organization, via the Club Activo 2030, scheduled a special event for October 24 to aid families in central provinces following an October 9 earthquake. The initiative focuses on housing needs for those whose homes were destroyed. Giacomo Tamburelli, president of Teletón 20-30, noted that funds will complement government programs, with oversight provided by the Comptroller General of the Republic to ensure transparency.
