Telia warns of fraudulent electronic invoices
Telecommunications company Telia has issued a warning regarding ongoing phishing scams where fraudsters send counterfeit electronic invoices to customers. These emails mimic official Telia billing, often using the company's logo and realistic information to urge customers to pay alleged debts or current service fees.
According to Telia's cybersecurity lead, Odeta Baranauskienė, the scammers use bank details that do not belong to the company, meaning any payments made to these accounts will not reach the service provider. A key indicator of these scams is the sender's email address; while official invoices come from noreply@telia.lt, attackers use domains that differ by only a single letter or symbol.
Customers are advised to be suspicious of emails that demand urgent payment, threaten service restrictions, or provide unusual payment instructions, such as new or previously unseen bank accounts. Telia recommends that anyone with doubts should avoid clicking links or opening attachments and instead verify information through the official self-service portal or official customer service channels.
