Temu pledges $200 million for product safety following EU fine
Temu has announced plans to invest approximately $200 million by 2026 to enhance product safety and compliance globally. This move follows a €200 million fine imposed by the European Commission in May for violations of the Digital Services Act (DSA).
As part of a corrective action plan accepted by the EU on October 26, Temu is developing enhanced product control systems. The company reported that laboratories operating within its logistics partners' warehouses have successfully passed an independent assessment by Bureau Veritas. While these audits confirm laboratory standards, they do not serve as a formal certification that all products on the platform meet European safety requirements.
To further mitigate risks, Temu is working with over 60 research institutions and implementing seller training programs aimed at improving compliance with the DSA and the General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR).
