Ten Srebrenica genocide victims to be buried in Potočari

A collective funeral will be held on 11 July at the Memorial Center in Potočari, Bosnia‑Herzegovina, where ten newly identified victims of the 1995 Srebrenica genocide will be interred. The victims, aged between 20 and 56, include 20‑year‑old Senad Jusić – the youngest to be buried – and 1939‑born Ramo Dautović, the oldest. Their remains were exhumed between 1997 and 2022 from mass graves at sites such as Kamenica, Jelovačka česma, Budak and Glogova.

Families have given consent for these ten burials. One victim, Nuko Nukić, will be laid to rest alongside his four cousins (amidžići). The ceremony will see fathers buried beside sons, brothers beside brothers, reflecting decades‑long efforts to locate and identify the missing. An additional ten identified victims remain in the Tuzla identification centre, but families have not yet approved their burial.

The event underscores ongoing reconciliation and remembrance efforts in the region, bringing closure to relatives after nearly three decades of searching for missing loved ones.
