Tencent launches WorkBuddy open platform to build AI Agent ecosystem

Tencent has officially launched the open platform for WorkBuddy, positioning the AI tool as an “operating system for the Agent era.” Following its launch in March, WorkBuddy has expanded into over 50 industries, including finance, education, and retail. To differentiate itself in a crowded market of AI office tools, Tencent is shifting from a single-tool approach to a multi-layered ecosystem that integrates developers, industry applications, and smart hardware.

The new open platform includes five functional modules: experts, skills, connectors, hardware, and Buddy applications. The strategy aims to solve the limitations of AI models by connecting them to real-world data and professional “know-how.” To facilitate this, Tencent has introduced over 100 ecosystem partners and 30 industry applications.

Hardware integration is a key component of this expansion. Notable collaborations include a co-branded AI desktop companion from Anker and a wireless microphone from Hollyland (LARK A2). The Hollyland partnership specifically targets the AI voice entry market, allowing users to use physical buttons on the microphone to trigger voice input, delete content, or send commands to the WorkBuddy agent, thereby reducing reliance on keyboards and mice.
