Tenerife enforces tighter wildfire restrictions as heat wave hits; September forecast remains warm

A heat wave on the Canary Island has pushed fire danger to very high levels. After a brush fire burned about 150 sqm at the Chivisaya viewpoint near Arafo on the first weekend of August, the island administration raised wildfire‑prevention measures to level two. President of the Island Council Rosa Dávila announced bans on open fires, grilling, spark‑producing tools such as chainsaws and welders, pyrotechnics, smoking in forested areas, and vehicle use on forest roads.

The Spanish meteorological agency AEMET reports temperatures of up to 35 °C across the archipelago, with peaks of 37 °C in Tenerife’s southern highlands, prompting the stricter rules.

Separately, a September weather outlook shows the island will stay warm, with average daytime temperatures ranging from 18 °C in the north to about 22 °C in the south. Rainfall is expected to remain low (around 10‑12 mm) and sunshine will average nine hours per day, while sea temperatures stay comfortable for swimming.
